From Confusion to Clarity: My Transformative Journey with Color Analysis

My first encounter with color analysis came during its surge in popularity in the K-beauty community about two years ago. Beauty YouTubers were raving about finding their personal colors, and I couldn’t help but wonder, “What’s my personal color?”

After watching countless videos and trying to self-analyze, I realized I wasn’t confident in my guesses. That’s when I decided to book a personal color analysis session in Korea, where the trend began.

The Eye-Opening Experience in Korea

My experience in Korea was very much eye-opening. I was never very experimental with my dressing, always sticking to safe colors; so it was fascinating to see the different coloured drapes on me and how they change my complexion. My colour analyst also shared with me how each season has their own unique image and keywords which I found very interesting. I came back with a result of summer pale, which was quite a surprise. Excited, I went shopping for the recommended products but they all just showed up pale and ashy on my skin. I was confused as it differed vastly from the reference image and it took me a long time after to even find products that showed up on my face. While I enjoyed the process, I began to question whether the analysis was accurate.

Finding Clarity at code.d

Months later, I had the opportunity to revisit color analysis in Singapore at code.d when I decided to further pursue my interest in personal colour by taking up a course at code.d. I was taught that the best colours for my wardrobe and makeup could turn out different which broke my prejudice that it should be the same. To my surprise, my results changed, and drastically at that.

I was concluded to suit autumn colours, which was almost the total opposite of summer pale. It did not take long for me to be convinced though. The recommended colours turned up beautifully on my skin and I felt more confident having my makeup done in those colors!

Why Results Can Vary—and Why It Matters

It’s not uncommon to retake color analysis and receive different results, as each company operates with unique beliefs, systems, and tools that can influence the outcome. Looking back, both experiences were valuable in their own way. My first session introduced me to the concept of personal colors, while my session at code.d gave me clarity and confidence. I now feel more assured in my style choices and it has greatly impacted my confidence too. To me, personal colour analysis is really about getting to know yourself better and a journey of self-expression.
